rDavidr Snare TUNING DEMO
Переглядів 1,8 тис.3 роки тому
Taking a deeper look into a few tuning options for the Snare/Floor Tom that rDavidr custom modified for me. Was pleasantly surprised that this thing sounds great no matter what you do to it. The bearing edge treatment that David did has completely set this drum up for success at any tuning range. rDavidr MODDED MY SNARE
Переглядів 25 тис.3 роки тому
Had the amazing opportunity to work on this drum with, none other than, rDavidr. This was an 80s style marching snare drum that I bought from a friend in College roughly 20 years ago. We decided to modify it into a snare/floor tom and I couldn't be happier with the results. Special thanks to David for working with me on this! GEAR REVIEW - EVANS Hydraulic Heads
Переглядів 15 тис.5 років тому
GEAR REVIEW - EVANS Hydraulic Heads
Nice approach. I tend to not worry about intervals between toms and use the perfect 4th between bottom and top heads.
I know it's been a while since you posted this video, but what do you normally use for reso heads?
Yes it has been! I still prefer the Evans genera resonants for most applications - sometimes I"ll go a G1 coated on the reso side for a drier tone.
👍🏻Thank you
Threw the D tuned sample in behind the existing snare I was already using for my demos, and OH MAN is it the perfect extra dimension
What snare reso head are you using on the 6.5”?
I love your playing and I love the snare
Blue hydraulics on wide open Gretsch Jasper shells late 70s and 80s . Pure magic.
These favor for me compared to the S family Zildjian in some ways visually as well as this hammering, but now some of the Dark S are the same as pure alloy in terms of b12 alloy, but I would have to go with Meinl on a complete set! I use the S family hi-hats, so mostly judging from this and other videos. Now for b8 alloy, Paiste just has some of the best variety in sounds
Would’ve liked to heard it with the hydraulic head.
I really like your music. I loved playing along to FUTURES that is in Drumeo
What is the size of that larger floor tom? That thing sounds like thunder! What reso heads are you using?
It's a 16" - I've got an Evans Genera Resonant head on the reso side - glad you dig!
@@TJHartmanndrums thanks, I put a UV2 and a Genera on my 16x16 floor Tom and replaced the aging original 1985 reso head and the 20yo emperor head. These new heads are absolutely thunder and fire man. I’ve got to do the rack toms now. Thanks for your hard work!
Yes, if C is the tonic, then F would be a 4th up from that, and Bb would be a 4th up from that. (I guess you could alternate a 4th and a 5th to get your octave, if that was important to ya...)
That Mid-High tone is nothing short of iconic. It resonates like a Gantara tone I'd hear in a temple. 🔔
I'm here from rDavidr. I love the test song you played so much!
When started playing… I could honestly see Jafar coming to get me
Hey man, great video and your drums sound awesome. If the perfect 4th is of five semitones, in a 10 12 14 16 configuration, how can 10 and 14 and then 12 and 16 be the same note just an octave apart. Am I getting confused? I tuned my drum set recently, I’ve got same configuration as yours, I tuned as it follows: 10” C3 - 12” G2 - 14” D2 - 16” A1. I used the tune-bot. Isn’t that perfect 4th interval between the toms? Thanks for helping
I wish they made a coated head !
They do for the snare.. I use 14 Red coated hydraulic.
Sounds fantastic man. Just found your channel. See you've not been around for a year. Would love to hear how you mix your drums in a new vid. Going through the process myself, hard getting everything dialed how you want it! 👊🏼
Thanks man! I'm working on putting something like that together - I'm in a new space now, so things are still getting dialed in!
did he swap out the evans hybrid skin with a coated head (and a big fat snare ring), or does he just have a big fat on top of the evans?
Yep, we swapped the Hybrid top for a UV2 and a BFSD XL Donut.
Que canción usas de fondo? Saludos amigo eres un grande!
The most beautiful cymbals out there (and versatile - I play mainly fusion). Only downside is that there’s no smaller chinas in the series (so I cheat with some Paiste 900’s). Love ‘em both ✌🏻🤩 ua-cam.com/video/5hxUBIsLpNo/v-deo.html
I just got done watching David's video on this snare rebuild. And let me tell you, that thing is SO awesome, I've been looking for a marching snare for my drum kit for a long time now, but haven't found the right one for me yet. I am going to steal his idea about the floor tom legs, oh, hell yes i am....Haha, that idea is absolutely brilliant. He did such a fantastic job on this thing and it's sound is, disgustingly awesome.....so good, so, SO good. This is my first time to your Channel and I'll tell you what, I'm 100% in. You sir, have a brand-new subscriber. One question for you, what is your main snare setup ? Because that thing sounds amazing also. Nice and crisp has a sick sounding pop to it....I like it...... Anyway, glad to be here and I'm looking forward to exploring the rest of your content, I'm sure I won't be disappointed. That track you played sounded killer, great tempo and changes, your fills were, unexpected at times but worked flawlessly, nice job. Sounded great. You are a fantastic percussionist.👍 Take care, stay safe. ~Jonny5🥁
ahh a Snom.. nice
What do you think of the UV2 heads? I have one on my maple snare but am considering getting them for the batter side of my toms. Right now I have G2 coated on them.
Can't recommend the UV series enough! The versatility and durability they offer is amazing. I use a combination of UV series heads across all of my drums now.
I just tuned my 3 toms to perfect 4ths from each other and did the reso head a minor third above the batter head, I LOVE IT. I have a Tune-Bot so it's super easy to get a starting tone then just do the rest of the toms from there.
BTW, with my Gretsch maple shells, no muffling necessary! they sound amazing, thanks agian.
@@prongATO That's awesome!!
I love the marching snare more than your main snare. Wow!
Elaborate on tuning? Notes?
Hey man just subscribed to your channel. That snare is sounding awesome! Do you tune to a specific note or interval between heads?
Thanks so much! This drum was rather hard to 'tame' just lots of overtone information, hence the dampening. I basically found pitch ranges that worked for the sound I was looking for - I didn't reference any pitches that I can recall. Snare side head is cranked way up, and batter varied based on the desired sound I was after. Super 30 snare wires too.
@@TJHartmanndrums Oh ok thanks for the response! I watched your tom tuning video and didnt know if you took a similar approach with the snare. Great sounding kit by the way.
which snare is that? the main one
It's a Pearl Sensitone Beaded Brass 14X6.5
I had blue Evans hydrologic heads on my Pearl drumkit
Now I really like this comparison! True! This is a difference between of the red and blue. Steve Gadd used hydraulics on his Pearl Tom’s in the 70s when he had the Frankenstein set.
Sick
LOVE the Sound of Pure Alloys..BUT love the look of the PURE ALLOY CUSTOMS...med..vs..med light.
Cymbals sounded good with music...little cheap sounding when no music played...BEST LOOKIN CYMBALS IVE EVER SEEN....
You sire....just won the greatest sounding bass drum on the planet, award. You could do a video on how you got that sound, alone. I'd be heartbroken if I learned that was a trigger. :-) That said....not sure what to think of these new Pure Alloy's. I was hoping Meinl would make something to compete with Paiste's Signature Dark series (at a more affordable price). But, this isn't it from what I can tell. That said, those hats sound spectacular. Great demo...thank you for sharing.
That thing sounds amazing
That kit sounds amazing. And the second floor tom is out of THIS WORLD! The bottom register is incredible
david rocks at drum projects.
I added legs to my marching snare and it’s junk lol 😂 that why you don’t buy 30$ vintage marching snare without double checking photos
𝚙𝚛𝚘𝚖𝚘𝚜𝚖 🎉
Just get to the point. !!!
Question: What do you have resting on the hats over the floor toms? Is there a splash underneath a tambo? I love the way that sounds and would love to emulate for a recording project. Thank you so much!!
massive!
This snare is a beast. It sounded best with the high tuning at least for my taste! Awesome playing as well TJ!
kickass snare bro!!
Man I wish saw this before doing my most recent video lol. Will hit that up next time. Other people might have done this vid but this was the first time I heard about it so thanks for doing one!
Your drum sound is out of this world! Those Meinl cymbals sounds amazing.
Sounds incredible man. Glad I subscribed. rdavidr led me in the right direction
Great video and awesome playing! Would you happen to remember the tuning? Any pitch reference notes? The toms, along with everything, sound amazing!
Snare sounds amazing on this track!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥
